03 · Workflow

How is order picking organized in OSIRIS WMS?

Order picking in our WMS follows a strictly defined workflow.

All actions are performed by the operator via a handheld terminal and are controlled by the system at every stage.

Step 1. Receiving a picking task

Before starting work, the employee is automatically assigned the next available picking series.

The handheld terminal displays:

Picking series number (Series Picking)

Warehouse movement route

Step 2. Executing the picking process

During picking, the system sequentially guides the employee through all required actions.

The handheld terminal displays:

Exact storage location of the item

Full product information

Required picking quantity

Each step is confirmed by scanning the product, location, or container, depending on the picking type.

We support two picking methods: Traditional Picking and Fast Picking.

Fast Picking reduces the number of scans without compromising control.

Step 3. Completing picking and transferring to the next process

At the final stage:

The picking result is recorded

Containers are sent to the packing area

After all operations are completed, the system closes the picking task.

04 · Principles

What is the picking process based on?

1. Order selection

The system selects orders for picking based on predefined criteria.

Two algorithms are available:

FEFO (First Expired, First Out): products with the nearest expiration date are shipped first.

Optimized: the system automatically groups orders based on the most frequently repeated products within a picking series.

How it works:

  • The system searches for orders with the status “Ready to be picked”.
  • Checks product availability in the warehouse.
  • Selects orders in batches.
  • For Optimized: first identifies the most frequent products, then selects orders containing those products.

2. Prioritization

The system determines which orders should be picked first.

Priority levels:

Urgent - critical orders

High - high priority

Normal - medium priority

Low - low priority

How it works:

When assigning a picking series to an employee, the system sorts orders by:

Status (in progress > new)

Priority (from high to low)

Picking type

Picking series ID

Picking series type

3. Filtering

The system filters out orders based on defined conditions.

  • Sorts orders by priority
  • Selects orders according to the chosen algorithm (FEFO or Optimized)
  • Groups them into picking series for warehouse staff

This approach enables efficient tracking of the entire picking process, including order priorities, product availability, and employee routes.

05 · Picking series

Picking series types

Mono Picking

Mono Picking is designed for orders containing a single item and a single quantity.

This is the fastest scenario: minimum actions, minimum scanning, and maximum speed from warehouse to packing zone.

Multi Picking

Multi Picking allows multiple orders to be picked simultaneously within one series.

The employee follows an optimized route, while the system clearly indicates which product should be placed into which container.
